    Dayak Large Ceramic Bead Earrings from Sarawak on the Island of Borneo

    This is a pair of large ceramic bead earrings with a swirling yellow pattern on a black background. They are typical of the tribal artwork of the indigenous Dayak people, who live in the Sarawak and Sabah states of Malaysian Borneo and the Kalimantan state of Indonesian Borneo. The Dayaks have a long tradition of beadwork, with beaded items serving as personal adornment, dowries, currency, and symbols of status and spiritual power related to their animistic beliefs.
    These earrings were purchased in Kuching, Sarawak in the early 1990s.
    The earrings are about 2 inches long (5 cm) and includes ilicone backs for the French hook wires, which are silver tone. The earring sare shown in one photo with a quarter to indicate the size.
    The earrings are in Like New condition.
